I picked up an LP in a second hand shop here in Canada. It was a pirate station LP from Radio Veronica titled Dank U and this was one of the tracks on it. It is my favorite track on the LP. Beautiful song.

Ik liep begin jaren '70 een ochtendkrantenwijk in het centrum van Amsterdam. Daar was een platenzaak van Roek Williams - op de Haarlemmerstraat of Haarlemmerdijk ... Waar precies weet ik niet meer, maar deze straten liggen ook in elkaars verlengde. Mooie single was dit! Ik heb ook nog een LP "Roeks Family's Favourites".

I was born and bred in Argentina and, like many of my countrymen, I am of Italian descent; therefore I have no connection whatsoever with the Anglosaxon world. I have always had a passion for military history, leading me to learn English. I watched "Gallipoli" and it hit me badly. I always had an instinctive sympathy for soldiers, my wife said that I must have been a soldier in a previous life, of course, I will never know, but it makes sense. In 1994 I went to Australia where I lived for 10 years. I read quite a lot about the Australian soldiers of WW1 and developed a huge respect and affection for them. The first time I listened to this song it reduced me to tears; it always does. Every 25th of April my wife and I went to the local War Memorial in Hornsby (NSW) at 5.30 AM to present our respects. The Aussies and the Kiwis have a lot to be proud of. LEST WE FORGET!
